People use them to explore outer space, for example, in search of new planets or solar systems. The first person who thought about flying in space was the scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky (1857-1935).

A spacecraft is an unmanned flying ship specially manufactured to move in space. Spacecraft are designed for certain purposes like exploring space, identifying the meteors, finding out the relation between Earth and space, and many other things.

Types Of SpaceCraft

The first Spacecraft to achieve interstellar travel is often referred to as the Voyager 1. It was launched on September 5, 1977, with a total of 10 instruments. Its primary mission was the exploration of Jupiter and Saturn, but both Voyager 1 and its sister ship Voyager 2 were meant to study solar winds. Upon further inspection into interstellar space, scientists discovered that the winds were not coming from our sun at all. They were coming from all over the place.

The first type is the rocket ship. The rocket ship is the most common type used today and was developed by Konstantin Tsiolkovsky in 1903. The rocket has a long cylindrical shape and has at its bottom a fuel source such as liquid oxygen, liquid hydrogen, or solid fuels like gun powder. A tank can store the fuel inside the rocket, and it reaches out through a nozzle that sits on the tip of the rocket.

There are many different kinds of space crafts, but to classify them all, they can be split into five main groups:

  • space station
  • space probe
  • orbital Spacecraft
  • interplanetary Spacecraft
  • manned Spacecraft.

There are many different types of Spacecraft, but the most important are the orbiters, landers, and rovers.

  • Orbiters circle a planet or moon; they don’t land on them.
  • Landers touch down on a planet or moon and then send back data to Earth.
  • Rovers travel across the surface of a planet or moon-like cars driving on Earth’s roads.
